2026: A BIG Year for Shirlington!

[UPDATED 27 JAN 2026]
Happy new year, everyone. As you read this, the first infrastructure work on the new Village streetscape [PDF, 9,1 MiB] is finally underway. Yay! All the permits have been issued for this $16 million project.

You will see that fences for heavy equipment have been erected on the Randolph Street surface parking lot. The roofs of the two “vias” or passageways from parking areas on both sides of Campbell Avenue will be lifted off and the lime green tile above Subway and UPS will be removed. Construction noise will be heard by some late at night but not for too long.

At our January 28 February 11 meeting, Federal Realty’s Geoff Sharpe will lay out the construction schedule and details on plans for the rest of renovation of the Village. Then we will discuss possibilities for new public art projects for the Village. Tell us what you have and have not liked and share any ideas you may have.  It should be fun.

We will also kick off some SCA reorganization this year including bylaws updates and board elections. Michael Angelo Viray and I have been working on a plan for how this can roll out but we need your input.  Time for me to pass the torch!

In November, our website was severely hacked but is now back up. We are updating the content. Adam Henderson, our webmaster, got it sorted out.

Finally, we have set our in-person meeting schedule for 2026 for the following Wednesdays at the Shirlington Library:

January 28th MOVED TO February 11th due to snowstorm
March 25th
June 17th
September 23rd
December 2nd

Please join us!
