News You Can Use
Top three changes coming to Shirlington area this autumn and winter: the Village streetscape normalizes, two old 4MRV buildings get torn down, and the Cap City brewery space gets filled!
1) The Village at Shirlington streetscape will finally get back to normal. On Oct. 15, the Temporary Outside Seating Areas (TOSA) expire, the County will remove the road blocks and additional lanes on Campbell Avenue and our restaurants must pull back to pre-COVID parameters. Most restaurants are reapplying for County permits that will allow them expanded outdoor cafe seating but each request needs to be reviewed in an expedited process. We will be monitoring closely to make sure that sidewalk walking areas are safer and better protected.
2) Astro Beer Hall opens at the corner of Campbell and S. 31st Street, finally filling in the large space left by Capitol City Brewery. Astro includes private event space and other amenities.
3) Four Mile Run Valley Master Plan implementation continues – Two old buildings will be torn down on the northern side of the stream. The vacant recording studio at 2700 S Nelson Street will be replaced with a temporary arts and cultural space installation called the Glade. Later this winter the big white WETA production center comes down so that parcel will be added to Jennie Dean Park as new green space. (Arlington County already purchased both these buildings.)
We hope to see you soon at our Zoom meetings and welcome your questions and comments. Please consider volunteering – the SCA needs new board members.
