Restrictions & Guidelines of Our Dog Park

The dog park is now open in the Shirlington neighborhood. Please follow the restrictions & guidelines to support the dogs in our community.

The Shirlington Civic Association, in support of the dogs, has decided to open the dog park during regular daylight hours with the following restrictions and guidelines:

  • Do not use the dog park if you have a fever, cough, difficulty breathing, or have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
  • Wear a proper face mask to slow the spread of COVID-19. This is for the protection of others as well as yourself.
  • Wash your hands before and after your visit and avoid touching your face.
  • Only socialize with family members or those who live in your household.
  • Maintain a distance of six feet from other users; don’t gather in groups.
  • Don’t touch entry gates, bag stations, trash cans, or other surfaces with your bare hands.
  • Do not pet dogs other than your own.
  • No spitting, chewing gum, or sharing water in the park. Food is prohibited in the dog park at any time.
  • Limit your visit to 30 minutes to allow others to enjoy the park.

Support The Dog Park

All the existing park rules need to be followed. It is of utmost importance to follow all the rules and guidelines to keep the dog park open. County personnel and dog park volunteers will be monitoring the park. Thank you for your cooperation, and be safe.

You can help support and save the Shirlington Dog Park by making sure you pick up after your dogs and point out to others to do the same. If you see any trash, take a second and put it in the bins. The dog park is normally closed for scheduled maintenance the morning of the third Thursday of each month. By joining, you will receive updates on closures. The Shirlington Dog Park closes at sunset each evening. However, there are many dog parks that are open in the area.
